![]() Ipswich Town announce substantial loss
Ipswich Town have announced a significant operating loss for the year ended June 30th 2009 of over £10m reflecting the significant transfer fees paid and substantial wage budget, reputed to be one of the highest in the Championship. This loss together with the cumulative interest on the pre existing debt is likely to have significantly increased the size of the overall debt owing to the Marcus Evans Group to over £40m.
Should this level of debt be concerning? Probably not, at least not with the continuing support of the Marcus Evans Group, however, normally at some stage debt is repayable unless it is used in some other way. The interests of the football club and those of the Marcus Evans Group are probably aligned in that success for the football club in terms of promotion to the Premiership and our ability to remain in the Premiership if we were to get there will obviously be beneficial to the supporters but also to the Marcus Evans Group. Events have moved on significantly since the dark days of Administration when only though the support and investment of individual shareholders was the Club able to come out of Administration. Those shareholders were generally happy to see their investment diluted by the large investment that Marcus Evans made. All supporters will now join in hoping that this increased investment will soon lead to success on the pitch. |
